Calpe's Levante
Beach is one of the famous Mediterranean beaches, overlooked by the Costa
Blanca's towering Peņon de Ifach and with a 2 km beachfront promenade with bars,
restaurants and hotels. Like the other Calpe beaches, Levante has a top "Blue
Flag" rating reflecting it's high standard of presentation and cleanliness. The
promenade continues beyond the beach giving access to the Calalga seafront properties and
a nature path that follows the cliff top to the Basetes sports harbour. enlarge |

Levante beach is cleaned each morning in spring and summer and offers
children's play areas and fresh water taps at it's various entrances. Very popular in the
summer months it has plenty of room for everybody with it's 40 metre width and gentle
shallow slope into the water. Calpe is an excellent choice for a holiday rental and many
rental apartments are located on this beach in buildings such as the Voramar, Topacio and
Esmeralda. Traditionally many Madrid families have beachfront properties here for weekend
and holiday visits. enlarge |

Calpe "La California Europea". They call it "The California of Europe",
and it's beginning to look like that, as the unique combination of a vibrant town, great
beaches and natural attractions, combine with modern facilities to make Calpe the first
choice among new Costa Blanca residents and people looking for a second or principal home.
It's the fastest growing town on the Costa Blanca with a constantly renewed choice of fine
accommodation, restaurants and other private and municipal services. Calpe town hall has
an active program of "greening" Calpe with tree planting and developing new
higher quality urban areas such as the Avenida Europa between the town and the
port. enlarge |

Basetes
harbour with Basetes properties in the background. It is mostly a diving and
sports harbour with a restaurant and outdoor bar. It's situated beside the Calpe - Moraira
coast road on the border with Benissa and can also be reached by an attractive cliff top
path from Calpe promenade. The sailing and diving schools are busy here in summer with
many people also enjoying the sunny terraces with their great views of Calpe bay and the
Peņon de Ifach. The private cliff top villas of Les Basetes are lucky enough to share
these views and are only two steps from the harbour. enlarge |

Basetes
harbour diving boats. The school provides complete diving courses and is an alternative
the main Puerto Blanco diving school and harbour at the other end of the town. The shop
and equipment store is located beside the boats and the sheer cliffs of Calpe Rock
and the rocky headlands provide interesting diving sites. Basetes harbour is only
suitable for small recreational boats with larger moorings being on offer at Calpe Yacht
Club in the main harbour and in the Luis Campomanes Sports Harbour at Mascarat. There are
currently plans to enlarge both Puerto Blanco harbour and Campomanes to meet the strong
demand for moorings. enlarge |

One of
the cliff top villas overlooking Basetes harbour with private access to the sea. Even with
a few million Euros to spend, front line properties are hard to find as they infrequently
come up for sale. The Calpe first line areas are Calalga and Basetes on the eastern side
of the town and Borumbot, La Canuta and Tosal on the western side. Second and third line
villas are more reasonably priced and may well share the same great views plus the easy
access to the sea and the town. The photo shows part of the Basetes seafront with the
footpath to Calpe. enlarge |

La Manzanera is one of Calpe's original urbanizations
founded around the famous project of architect Ricardo Bofill. In the late 1960's he
created the Manzanera village on a cliff top beside the town and overlooking the Peņon de
Ifach. It quickly became well known throughout Europe for it's Red Tower, Green Tower,
Amphitheatre, rooftop swimming pools and very modernist design. It has now been renovated
and adjoins quiet streets with luxury villas that also benefit from the wonderful
location. To get there you drive up the hill past the the Cultural Centre (Casa de
Cultura) and take a left turn after the La Hermita hermitage on the top of the hill. enlarge |

Puerto
Blanco is a small sports and diving harbour situated where Maryvilla, La Canuta
and Tosal meet the sea. There is a diving club, school and shop here that organise
exploration trips around the rocky headlands and Calpe Rock. If you want to relax there is
a safe and shallow sandy beach beside the harbour wall that is good for all the family. It
is a clean Blue Flag beach with all the facilities of the larger beaches including clumps
of palm trees to give some shade and fresh water. There are plans to extend this harbour
along Maryvilla's rocky bay to accommodate the strong demand for Calpe
moorings. enlarge |
