It comprises mostly luxury villa properties and some new seafront apartments situated beside the architect Ricardo Bofill's famous La Manzanera development. Calpe planning limits the height of villas throughout the municipality to 7 metres or two storeys so most of Calpe has a low rise look apart from the town centre and the beachfront apartments. enlarge
CalpeThe typical dry stone walls at the entrance to La Manzanera. The La Manzanera development was a landmark design from the 1960's featured in architectural magazines and articles throughout Europe. It was designed as a self contained village with some of the best Mediterranean views and unique residential areas like the Amphitheatre, the Green Tower and the Red Tower with rooftop swimming pools and village like esplanades and entrances beside the living areas. It has all recently been renovated and is still a popular location for holiday residences, particularly for visitors from Madrid who visit their properties for extended weekends. enlarge

CalpeMaryvilla urbanization going down to the sea by Oscar's restaurant with it's swimming pool and tennis courts. Oscar has been running this restaurant with his family for many years and it has become a focal point of the urbanization with it's extensive pool terrace that is ideal for an evening drink. Next door you can also find the excellent Restaurant Maryvilla with it's German / International cuisine.

Maryvilla is Calpe's largest urbanization, reaching from the sea to the N332. On the sea side the quickest access is from the Puerto Blanco harbour and on the Altea side the properties have a direct access to the main road before the Altea tunnels.  enlarge

A road leads up to a weather station on the top which is a favourite scenic spot and is popular with para gliders who take advantage of the afternoon thermal currents. Climbers also visit the rock face in the centre of the picture as an alternative to the famous Peņon de Ifach climbs.  enlarge
CalpeA typical Maryvilla street with the spacious "tower style" property that you find here. Most of them have a pool and BBQ and a complete separate apartment on the lower floor with its own covered terrace. The sea views are often fantastic.

The urbanization is divided into sectors with G, H and F on the highest streets running from the sea cliffs round to Altea and A and B in the lower valleys beside La Canuta and Puerto Blanco harbour.

Half the villas have access at street level and half have entrances with flights of stairs. The urbanization has been a traditionally German and Swiss area although now every nationality owns properties here. enlarge
