Calpe is a combination of fine
beaches, mountains, and low rolling hillsides that offer many possibilities of finding
properties with sea views. The Morro de Toix mountain divides Calpe from Altea and is the
location of the large and well known urbanization of Maryvilla.
Maryvilla has an access from the Puerto Blanco
sports harbour on the Calpe town side, and a direct access from the N332 on the Altea
side. The roads wind steeply up through the urbanization to arrive at the lookout point on
the top of the Morro de Toix, which is a favourite spot for climbing and para-gliding and
the whole urbanization comprises of property with some of the finest Mediterranean views.
Many villas are of the tower
design with large livingrooms with fireplaces, pool terraces and separate ground floor
apartments. The guest apartments have private entrances and their own covered terrace. The
carpentry in these properties is of the traditional Castilian panelling type.
Maryvilla properties are often beautifully updated and a number of luxury villas are in construction. A focal
point of Maryvilla is Oscar's Restaurant with it's pool and tennis and you could try the
Maryvilla International restaurant next door.

Below Maryvilla and still to
the west of Calpe are the properties in urbanizations La Canuta, Canuta Baja, and
Canuta de Ifach on a series of low lying hills giving fine views of the Peñon de Ifach
and the Mediterranean. Villas here reach down to the coast line cliffs and the Puerto
Blanca harbour and beach. Calpe property prices tend to depend on the sea view and the age
of the property with La Canuta benefiting from it's elevated position and close proximity
to the coast. The area has many new high quality villas and all Canuta properties are not
more than 5 minutes drive from Calpe centre.
Closer to the town on the same
side are El Tosal and La Manzanera. El Tosal is
located on a promontory beside the sea with great views and many properties of the luxury
type going down the the sea. Manzanera adjoins it and is famous for the Red and Green
Towers of the La Manzanera residential project designed by the architect Ricardo Bofill.
This development put Calpe property on the map with it's Manzanera clifftop location looking
directly over the sea to Calpe and the Peñon de Ifach. The apartments have been updated
but are still recognizably in the 1960's "hippy" style. La Manzanera along with
Borumbot also has a small area of very exclusive villas.
Calpe town centre has many residential apartments
with the top part of the town being more family orientated with 3 and 4 bedroom apartments
and the lower sea side having more holiday 1 and 2 bedroom properties. Quality is very
variable, but it is usually reflected in the price, and this area provides one of the best
value ways to acquire a property in Calpe. Wherever you are, there are supermarkets and
services nearby and the excellent Arenal-Bol beach is only a short walk away.
La Estacion is Calpe's railway
station (a small local railway, El Trenet, that runs from Denia to Alicante) and is
adjoined by the small Estacion I and Estacion II urbanizations comprising basic older
properties. Following this road leads leads to the large urban areas of Cucarres and Oltamar on the Oltamar mountain
hillside. Both Cucarres and Oltamar provide great Peñon and Mediterranean views and have
many luxury villas dotted among the pine tree lined streets.
On either side of the Peñon
de Ifach, Calpe has two of the finest beaches on the Mediterranean with an attractive promenade lined with
first line apartments - many of them new, such as the landmark Apolo 14 or Playa de Oro
buildings. Second line buildings also often have excellent sea views and these properties
have all the advantages of the beachfront location and proximity to the town and bustling
Calpe Port.
The Almendros, Enchinent and Ortenbach urbanizations
can be found behind the Las Salinas salt lake with it's Flamingos and Herons. It is a
quiet area with many single story older properties with pools and roof terraces. The Marisol Park
Urbanization is also located here within walking distance of Arenal beach and comprises
two upper apartments and two lower ones with a garden in each block and are particularly
good value.
The seafront area in eastern
Calpe, on the right side of the Calpe - Moraira coast road, comprises the exclusive
Caleta, Calalga and Basetes urbanizations
with every kind of old and new luxury villa with great views. A clifftop path runs past
these urbanizations and connects Calpe promenade with the small Basetes sports and diving
harbour. On the other side of the coast road can be found the Carrio, Pinos and
Pinarmar urbanizations near the Calpe border with Benissa and located on low hillsides
with small winding streets lined with private villas with pools and gardens.
A separate urban part of Calpe
can be accessed from the roundabout beside the La Plaza shopping centre. This leads past
the Calpe Tennis Club to the La Casanova developments on the right, the Rafol urbanization on the left and
further on the Imperial Park development and the La Cometa urbanizations. Much of Calpe's
new development is taking place here, particularly in La Casanova. La Cometa comprises of
established properties and makes the most of the sunny hillsides with great sea views.
Take a left turning after the tennis club and you will arrive a Garduix with it's big new
Spanish villas and further on, Colina
del Sol (The Hill of the Sun) with fabulous 360º Mediterranean views.
Popular residential and
holiday bungalow urbanizations include Rafol with its beautiful pool area, Calpe Park
(with larger 2 storey properties and gardens) and Las Adelfas with it's quiet well kept
streets. Calpe Park and Las
Adelfas are situated on the first Calpe entrance road from the N332 coming from the
Benissa direction and they are about 3 minutes drive from Calpe centre.
