These photos were taken at the
end of January and show you more of Benissa and it's urban areas with it's coastline of
cliffs and rocky bays and low lying hills. Benissa combines quiet residential streets with
private villas and a historic old town. Click on the link if you want to see a specific
urbanization.

Urbanization
Buenavista is one of the original Costa Blanca urbanizations located half way
between Calpe and Moraira and with easy access to the coast road. Many of the villas have
beautiful mature gardens with palm and acacia trees and private pool terraces. Most of
them also have traditional wood burning fireplaces and plots of 800m2 plus. The new style
is to remove the wrought ironwork on balconies and terraces and replace it with
balustrades. enlarge |

Another
view of Urbanization Buenavista showing a typical villa on a steeper plot with
natural stone terracing. The original villas also have this natural stone walling running
along their street frontage. Outside steps lead to a rooftop solarium and from here and
the main covered terrace you have wonderful panoramic views of the Mediterranean. The V.A.P.F. company of Benissa built most of the properties here
along with many of the first Calpe villas. The often have an underbuild which can
serve as a useful store room or if it is high enough it may be worth excavating to
make a complete extra room.
Most of these villas have undergone some form of renovation
with the most usual being new kitchens, bathrooms and flooring but occasionaly also
new carpentry and double glazed windows. A good idea is to fit a cassette type wood
burning stove with a fan in the open chimney that most of them have. It can heat the whole
house far better than the original arrangement and if far more economical with fire wood. enlarge |

Urbanization
Montemar dates from the same time as Urbanization Buenavista and also occupies a
fine sunny hilltop position with excellent Mediterranean views. Pine trees provide shade
and most of the villas have already been renovated and have added swimming pools.
The turning to Montemar is at the Viņasol restaurant and supermarket on the Calpe -
Moraira road (about half way) and it leads past the urbanization and eventually on to
Benissa town. enlarge |

A
view of renovated villas in Urbanization Montemar with new raised walls, entrance gates,
car ports and pools. Montemar has easy access to the coast and Benissa and is a popular
choice for more reasonably priced properties. Probably
the best way to renovate an older property is to contract a recommended builder to do the
whole job including the specialized work like plumbing and electricity. This is far less
hassle than trying to coordinate the work with individual tradesmen and will save money in
the end. Of course, if you can do it youself that's even better. enlarge |

Urbanization
Baladrar is close to the San Jaime Golf Club and is located around a bamboo
filled valley that reaches down to the sea. Villas here are a mixture of different styles
with a good deal of new construction in progress. The
Montemar Hotel and the Tartaņa restaurant is located here and is popular spot with German
visitors. enlarge |
